Slow News Day
Behind the Green Door
2025-05-14
Since I will probably not be back in time to do a Sunday show, I thought I would do some news on the video this week. I have also honed my editing skills so that I could splice some footage from one place onto footage from another. Before long I will be making my own movies. This is probably how Stanley Kubrick would have started if he were born fifty years later.
You can tell when Trump has the wind at his back by the tone of the media. Looking at the news I see mostly nonsense drama that is either tiny things exaggerated to seem important or made up things that are made to sound important. That says Trump must be doing pretty good right now. The shrillness of the hysteria is also a good sign that Trump is on a bit of a roll.
The downside of this is the news is less interesting. The items in the show are the best bits I could find. The rest is only slightly better than the obituaries. Of course, the summer is upon us and Memorial Day is a week or so away. The serious people in journalism are prepping to take their serious faces to the beach, so the task of filling the news sites is left to interns.

Well, the river is rising.
I'm on the... I don't know what you'd call this.
It could be the floodplain if it was a bigger river.
But this is the little creek that runs adjacent to my property.
And you can see there's a lot of water here.
Normally, I mean, this is... If you're looking at it, it's...
about 10 feet across but normally it would be about three feet and we had trickle
of water but now it's been pouring it's been raining last few days i think we got
like eight inches of rain so it's been pretty heavy rain it's uh it's kind of neat
to look at in a way especially this little fall it's like a miniature river you
know you could go out west up to colorado or something you see rivers like this
that are you know 50 times wider and deeper and all that but they have the same
attributes you know the same sort of uh
You know, things going on with the little rapids and you got a little waterfall here.
It's kind of neat.
This actually runs,
the source of it is way up,
but it runs all the way down into the Potomac River eventually.
And it's amazing how powerful water is.
Down the other side,
through the woods,
across the road,
there's a big sort of wide open area with a lot of woods.
And tree branches and all sorts of things get carried along there.
Last year, we had a big, big rain like this one.
And I found a log that actually swept down the mountain.
It's not here, but there's a behind me where I'm at.
it swept down the mountain all the way across my driveway.
Somehow or other, it dodged every tree and everything else.
It wasn't like it was floodwaters either.
It was just kind of following these little creeks and streams and so forth.
So, pretty neat.
Well, anyway, I'm going to go back up to the house and we'll talk there.
All right, we're back on the porch.
And,
well,
the cats are a little wound up,
so there's a pretty good chance they make an appearance here.
One of them is...
Almost at the top of the wall over there, he's climbing up chasing a bug.
And the other one, he wants to eat, so he's pacing around the floor.
Well,
anyway,
since I'm not going to be doing a show on Sunday,
I thought,
you know,
well,
I'm not 100% sure I'm not going to do the show on Sunday.
I am leaving on Friday morning, first thing Friday morning, before the podcast goes up.
I've already recorded it.
I'm doing this Wednesday night.
I'm going to put the podcast up and queue it up so it goes by itself.
You can set published dates on the podcast,
Rumble,
Odyssey,
all this stuff,
and even on the post on the site.
Because I'm going to be out at like 4 in the morning probably,
I don't know.
It kind of depends.
I mean, I'm going to be ambitious and try to get up at four in the morning and...
and start driving through Appalachia.
I'm going to end up in Tennessee, and that's where I'm going to spend the weekend.
And I'm going to come back on Sunday.
Now, the long route is 10 hours, and the short route is 8 1⁄2 hours, something like that.
So I'm going to go down probably the long route and then come back the short route.
And the short route is pretty much just up Interstate 81.
It's a straight shot.
And it's not bad.
I've driven it before.
There's a lot of good scenic stuff.
But the long route, that's a lot more fun.
So, you know, a lot of things to see.
And I haven't driven through Appalachia in a while, so it's going to be a fun trip.
But it depends upon when I leave on Sunday.
You know,
if I get up early,
which means I didn't stay up late on Saturday night,
not 100% guarantee of that.
then I'll be back in time.
I'll do a show on Sunday evening.
But if I'm going to be keeping the lamp lit late on Saturday night,
then I might leave late on Sunday.
That means I'll get back Sunday night, and I'll be too damn tired to do anything.
So what I thought I'd do for the video is do what I normally do on Sunday,
and that is look at the memorandum.
Now you've got a little intro of the river.
Assuming that I put it in there, one of the things I'm trying to do
Whenever I do these videos is learn something new.
And so I took some B-roll, as the pros call it, of the creek.
Because it's been raining here for, gosh, it seems like forever.
I mean, it was pouring the last two days.
I mean, it was unbelievable how much rain was coming down.
I think we got like eight inches of rain, something like that.
as floods a lot of the towns downhill they've had flooding problems and it's weird
i mean you know there's a what the heck is the name of the town chambersburg i
think it's up in pennsylvania what the heck is the other one i forget what the name
of it is but you know it's well above sea level but you know it's uh built on a big
rock and when the water comes rolling down it you know it doesn't go through the
rock so they get flooding but anyway
So I thought what I'd do is I'd do some B-roll,
and then I'd figure out how to fade in,
and then fade out,
and then fade back into this.
So we'll see if that works.
If it's just choppy garbage, then you know I didn't figure it out.
But anyway, on the Memorandum site, there's kind of a lot of funny, stupid stuff on there.
I kind of wish I was doing a show on Sunday because, well, it'd be a lot of fun to do.
The first item is, White House eases China tariffs after warnings of harm to Trump's people.
This is the Washington Post.
Then you get the New Republic.
Trump tariff fiasco worsens as brutal new reports expose a fresh scam.
The fresh scam is supposed to be, I have no idea.
Maybe I'll open that up.
And then Salon Magazine, which I can't believe is still in business.
And Amanda Marcotte, I can't believe she's still writing.
I mean, that woman was a kook back before kooks became fashionable.
So I mean, you would think by now she would run out of kookiness.
But anyway, Ben Shapiro is cracking under the pressure to shield for Trump.
That's actually quite funny.
Well, let's see about this New Republic story.
Now, the New Republic is actually run by a gay Nazi, so just keep that in mind.
He's not like a gay Nazi in that he's an actual Nazi or a fascist or white
supremacist or any of that stuff.
He just likes dressing as one.
But he is gay.
Let's see.
What does the Trump tariffs fiasco,
this is in the New Republic,
which again,
I can't believe is still in business,
but you know,
you got a rich guy.
It's a good example of how,
if you just have one rich patron,
these publications can just go wild as long as they're wild in a direction that he likes.
You see this with the Atlantic,
the kook,
the woman that used to be married to Jeff,
not Jeff Bezos.
Um,
Well, what's his name?
Steve Jobs, his widow.
Well,
she's bankrolling the Atlantic,
and she thinks that,
or,
well,
the guy who runs it,
what's his name?
Goldberg.
You know,
he's got her all,
you know,
convinced that while they're doing the Lord's work,
and this is fantastic,
when in fact it's just crap.
He's turned it into a tabloid.
It's disgusting.
But anyway, enough of that.
Apparently, the scam here is, let's see, the scam is that he really didn't do anything.
In other words, he didn't get any real concessions out of China.
So he did the tariff deal, and then he bent the knees.
That's the theme that they seem to be trying to run with here,
is that somehow Trump lost to China.
Because they were all geared up to do this act where the ports are empty and the
shelves are empty and all this stuff.
And, of course, the only people who believe this are the people who create these narratives.
You can look up and see how many ships are actually due into all of our ports.
I mean, for the most part, it's public information.
But, you know, I've learned a lot of work at the ports.
I know where to look for it.
And they ran this big story the other day saying there are zero ships headed to the
ports in California.
When, in fact, you can look it up and see that over the next month, there are 57 ships due in.
In fact, there was more ships due in than typical.
I mean, there's fears there might be a backlog.
They just make stuff up.
It's the same thing with the empty shelves business.
Oh, my God, the shelves are empty.
The China tariffs are already starting to bite.
There's no evidence of this anywhere at all.
I mean, look, I just recently had to buy a new soldering iron station.
to do like my electronic work, the truck project is going to require me to rewire the truck.
So like, all right, I got to, I'm going to have to use it anyway.
And I have some lamps to fix.
That's another story.
So the one I had, I haven't used it in a while and I don't know, because it's not working.
Well, all this stuff is made in China.
All of it's readily available.
It was all easily available.
I got, in fact, I ordered it and it's going to be, you know, here tomorrow.
So one day service.
Anyway,
but,
you know,
this is the scam that they're running is to try and create all these scenarios where,
you know,
Trump is losing.
But so far,
what I've seen,
the glimpses I've seen of the preliminary framework of this China deal,
it's actually a really good deal.
The Chinese are going to cooperate on the fentanyl issue.
That's a big one because they're supplying most of the chemicals to the labs in
Mexico where this stuff is made.
And, you know, they also send it to Canada where Canada has meth labs.
Well, they have meth labs, but they also have fentanyl labs.
So what I've seen so far,
if it turns out to be the thing,
and they got 90 days,
they got a lot of details to work out.
That's a pretty good deal.
And the tariff arrangement will be much higher for Chinese goods coming to the
United States versus American goods going to China to try and rebalance the relationship.
It's all good news.
It's all good stuff.
Look, we're not going to abandon doing trade with China.
We're simply going to try and move some essential items back into the United States.
That's called sensible trade policy.
We shouldn't have the Chinese controlling large parts of our medical supply chain.
That's insane.
We shouldn't allow the Chinese to control parts of our food supply, which has happened.
We've got to make sure those things are vital to us, stay home, and other stuff.
We can let the Chinese make certain car parts.
That's fine.
It's not the end of the world, or computer parts, or all kinds of things.
Anyway, let's see what else we got here.
How much time I got?
I got to keep track on it because I did my B-roll.
I got to see how much I can use of that.
Let's see.
Oh, this is the New Republic also.
Mike Johnson just wrecked Trump's ugly working class GOP scam.
Let's see.
This is associated to this.
The Titanic.
Johnson predicts House big, beautiful bill will sink in the Senate.
Let's see.
Rich versus poor.
Who gets what in the GOP tax bill?
Not much more room left for salt, says GOP tax chief.
That's the second house business.
I'm actually in favor of that.
You shouldn't get interest deductions on the second house.
That's stupid.
Let's see.
It's got a whole bunch of stuff here.
You know,
they're starting to put together this bill,
and I'm a little concerned that they're trying to do too much.
I'm much more in favor of breaking things up and making them bite-sized because
anytime Congress tries to do these big,
giant bills,
there's two things that happen.
One,
it allows people to put poison pills into the damn thing so that it gives everybody
an excuse to vote against it.
That's an old trick.
You know, hey, let's put this all into one big bill.
Because we really don't want to pass any of it.
So we'll put enough poison pills in here that everybody has an excuse to say no.
And that could be happening here.
The other side of it is,
hey,
we'll put this big bill together,
but we'll just load it up with so much of a crap that we want that any of the good
stuff is completely overwhelmed by the crap.
And that's a very strong possibility given how the Republicans operate.
So...
We'll see.
One of the things I'm learning with Trump,
given what we've seen,
like the South Africa business,
for example,
he keeps just doing things that we never thought would happen.
And the first term was a lot of promises and very limited delivery.
I mean,
he did really well on deregulation,
which people don't appreciate just how great a job he actually did on deregulation.
And he also did a pretty good job on the administrative stuff with immigration.
But, you know, obviously Biden reversed a lot of that stuff.
But this time they're going about it much smarter, much faster.
They are doing a lot of good things.
So, you know, we'll wait and see.
You know, Trump got burned several times by his own party on budget bills his first term.
So maybe we'll see if he's learned anything.
This is a story that's cracking me up.
Let's see how much time we got here.
Among problems with Trump's free luxury jet from Qatar, it's not actually free.
This is... Who is this?
That's MSNBC.
Another outfit I'm surprised is still in business.
The Washington Post.
Conduct oversight on Trump's graft or censure James Comer.
I have no idea what this is supposed to mean, but it has to do with his plane.
Carnival lectures Dems on how to go after Trump for a $40 million grift.
Wall Street Journal.
Republicans raise concerns over Trump's plane gift as he heads to Qatar.
Well, look, foreign countries give American presidents things all the time.
We actually have a process for handling this.
And Trump has talked about this, that it's not a gift to Trump.
It is a gift to the American people.
And a lot of this stuff,
a surprising amount of this stuff actually ends up in presidential libraries.
You know, presidential libraries are not libraries, more like museums.
If you go to the Reagan library out in Simi Valley, it's full of all this stuff.
There's a whole wing of stuff that was given to Reagan while he was president.
And, you know, they have a little story about it and all that, just exhibits.
And a lot of it, some of it's kind of neat and some of it's kind of silly and pointless.
But, you know, that's where this stuff goes.
And you can be sure Clinton's got a bunch of this stuff.
And there's rules about what the president can keep and what people can give to him
and all that.
But Trump's a rich guy.
You know, he doesn't care.
He's got his own damn plane, for Christ's sake.
This $400 million cutter jet, which is supposed to be pretty cool looking.
I've seen some pictures of it.
It does look kind of neat.
And the joke running around is it's going to replace Air Force One because Air
Force One is 40 years old.
And apparently Boeing is unable to build another Air Force One.
This whole thing is just embarrassing.
But these guys, they're trying to make a mountain out of a molehill.
There is nothing wrong with this jet thing.
Apparently Laura Loomer made a big stink about it.
And, you know, it's a good reminder...
with someone like Loomer is that when they're,
when these kooks are on your side,
it's tempting to overlook their kookiness,
to overlook the fact that in case of Loomer,
she just wants attention.
But when they,
you know,
inevitably they're not going to be on your side,
they're going to harm your side.
And that's when you're reminded that, Hey, you know what?
Aligning with kooks is never a good idea.
Always a good,
good rule of life if i ever write a book about you know jordan peterson book the 12
rules of life one of them would be avoid hanging around weirdos you know if you
hang around weirdos inevitably you're going to regret being around weirdos and and
that's that's what you're hearing here with loomer and i think marjorie taylor
green is starting to make some noise there's nothing wrong with this it's stupid
it's embarrassing that we can't build our own presidential jet but you know it's a
different story
Let's see.
Do I have time here?
No, I think I'm going to call it that.
That'll get me to like 15 minutes or so.
Yeah, get me to 15 minutes.
All right.
I hope everyone enjoyed the video, and I will see you next week.
